"Goodnight, sunshine!"

Do you always feel tired when you wake up in the morning? Don't worry; you are not really a lazy person, you are just an evening person. According to a study conducted in Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), the eveningness of an adolescent and the schedules of early times can be one of the causes of poor school performance.

Being an evening person means that your performance is better during the afternoon and part of the evening; is in this period when you feel more able to complete any task that you are supposed to accomplish. On the other hand, being a morning person means that you prefer waking up early to start your routine. In other words, being a night owl is not related to being a slothful person; according to the research conducted in the UCM, this has to do with each person's "biological clock," which makes us wake up earlier at the age of twelve or younger and later after becoming a teenager.

The two main elements that produce this switching from diurnal to nocturnal are biological—hormones emanated once hit puberty—and psychosocial factors such as the life style, experiences and familar environment. For instance, having no option but studying all night long and then waking up past noon transforms your biological clock and turns you into an evening person. Does it sound familiar to you?
