Quitting Smoking Can Be a Heavy Experience

You had better drop that cigarette right now, because there is no way back; we are already aware that smoking too much can develop different kinds of cancer—either mouth, lungs or even colorectal—, produce hideous effects on your appearance such as getting your teeth and nails yellow and your hair opaque and untidy, the bad smell impregnated in your body, or even make you infertile. Quitting smoking is not the end of this nightmare, nevertheless; this brings a result that may become more horrendous if you used to be slim or if you are a little bit narcissistic.

According to a study conducted in Europe, people who quit smoking tend to gain at least 4 or 5 kg (8.8—11 lb) on the first year, something that contradicts the formerly stated tendency of 2.9 kg (6.39 lb). The research was based on checking the situation of sixty-three patients who quit smoking either with or without having been treated; however, there is also an opposite case in which people who gave up smoking lost a considerable amount of weight.

To gain weight is an issue that affects ex-smokers, especially women, yet a few more pounds in your body are nothing if you take into account the advantages—no more nasty smells, a better taste in food, enhanced physical resistance, less likeliness of getting a heart disease—don’t you think so?

  1. I quit smoking I few month ago. It was not intended at all. Cigarretes taste and smell started making me nauseaus and I stopped smoking. I feel very lucky since I know people who really want to quit smoking but they simply cannot.

  2. I've tried to give up smoking at least five times, and all of them have failed. I think that if I ever stop smoking, I will get many extra pounds. Whenever I make the effort to quit cigarettes, I get anxious and start eating a lot of food; for me it's been a vert difficult experience.

  3. I have never tried to give up smoking. I started at a very young age, but opposite to the rule, every year I smoke less. There are days that I don't smoke at all, but I am a social smoker and when I go out I light one cigarette after another. What you say is true, when I feel anxious the only think that keeps me from overeating is a cigarette, that's why I always keep a box in my drawer. As I once heard in a famous TV series: "Smoking kills you, but first, it kills your apetite".
