Cannabis and Hemp: Hazardous or Helpful?

Marijuana, one of the most controversial plants in the entire flora, is considered on one hand as a dangerous drug, and on the other hand a resource estimated to have around  25,000 uses.

Originated from the Himalayan Mountains, this plant has a worldwide spread today. Now, for more over than 4,000 years Marijuana has been used for medical purposes, and around 500 years B.C. Scythians used it with textile purposes fabricating clothes, while the Chinese used it for manufacturing paper and fabrics centuries before.

The main substance contained within Cannabis is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a naturally occurring chemical substance that produces a psychoactive reaction. The quantity of this element present will determine the textile, health beneficial and intoxicating trade of the plant. In addition, the differences between soils, temperature, and light as well are key factors which influence the low or high presence of tetrahydrocannabinol.

Hemp, referred as the lower THC strains of Cannabis with a high presence of fiber, is the soft, durable fiber that is cultivated from plants of the Cannabis genus. This is an element considered a natural supplier for: food, paint, fuel, construction materials, oil, paper, and many more. The canvas, considered to be the oldest relic of human industry was found in ancient Mesopotamia dating back to 8000 BC made by hemp. Besides, the seeds found in hemp contain an 80% of “good fats” in addition to high levels of protein, dietary fiber and amino acids necessary for a good health maintenance.

Being a threat to oil, alcohol, tobacco, chemical corporations and many more. Should Marijuana production be legalized once again as it was once before in Europe and North America?

  1. What an ancient plant! It has been used like forever with plenty of purposes and nowadays the discussion is focus on the side effects that you might have when smoking it…There are several scientific trials that can demonstrate that THC has a number of benefits for our health; not only cigarettes of marihuana can help you with any condition you may have; but also moisturizers, and nutritional supplements are products that can relieve your pain, besides being a natural supplier for all the items that you mention. I agree on marihuana legalization as it has been empirically proven that it has a lot of advantages in numerous fields.

  2. Agreeing with Vera I think that Marijuana has proven to do more good than harm. Since ancient civilization, and many other cultures used it for good I don't see why it shouldn't be legalized, besides the obvious reasons of fiscalization ang production control which are beside the point here. As expressed in the last parragraph Marijuana is a threat to tobaco, alcohol and other chemical corporations, is this the reason for which I most strongly agree to Marijuana legalization
