Is too geek to be true

Art and science have been closely related since Mary Shelly wrote the first novel ever about Science Fiction, Fankenstain. In this master piece of art, the author told us what doctors discovered many years latter, that the human brain works through electro magnetic pulses. Such important science breakthrough was predicted in literature centuries ago.

For instance, lets think about Star Wars: This movie, among many other features predicted the satelital defensive system that nowadays is being used by the American Defense Department, same as the Death Star deflector shields. This movie, also predicted the use of hologams as a way of comunication. The 3D technology of present days was inpired by this movie, 40 years ago.

Cell phones and Smart phones have their own inspirations in movies too. Think about the communicators in movies like Star Treck, and I am not thinking about the last couples of movies, think of the movies were made in the 60's, the first ones of the Star Treck saga. Quite impresive, that something that was consider to be futuristic and out of this galaxy, is now a reality. And all came from a movie.

The development of AI (Artificial Inteligence) has been a key concept ever since there was science fiction movies. Movies like Terminator, are warning us about the consequences of missusig technology. The train of thought of Terminator is that at a point in human history we relied on technology, so much, that technology began to control our life, taking over all the aspects of human life. Doesn't it sound familiar to you?

My point is. Art, specially movies, are at least 50 years ahead of science and its consequences. Should we take into account Science Fiction then? Or shuold we continue taking it for granted?
