Pills for your alcoholism

The process of getting rid of a bad habit has always been difficult for people, especially if more than just a habit we are talking about an addiction, but now that could be a more bearable process, at least for alcoholics.

Stop drinking is the first step to start rehab, but what about the anxiety and dependence feelings after that? Well, a clinical study led by researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, U.S., showed that there is a very effective pill to treat those symptoms and increase percentages of succeeding in stop drinking.

The pill called Topiramate or Topamax is a derivative of the naturally occurring sugar monosaccharide D-fructose and it is known for being used to treat seizures and migraine headaches and after this also for treating alcoholism.

The study contemplated over a hundred alcoholics and it turned to be effective in more than a half of the cases reducing dependence and cravings even in those cases that hadn’t stop drinking at the moment of entering the study. Also, it was proved to improve physical and psychological health by lowering cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body mass index and reducing risk of developing cirrhosis. It is important to say, as well, that long term studies have shown no serious problems related to the drug/pill, so it seems to be only benefits for consumers and it could be the solution for some people’s problem, couldn’t it?

  1. I knew that this pill is also used by people who suffer from epilepsy as an anticonvulsant, and that researchers are still working on other benefits this pill may have for other severe medical conditions (some drugs addiction, eating disorders, quit smoking).
For me, it seems to be a good alternative for those who suffer from alcoholism, as it can improve many other symptoms and their health.

    1. Yes Vera, it has been used for lots of different porpuses for some years now and it has always had good results for the people who consumed it, at least that's what I found in some comments related to it.

  2. It is hard for me to believe in such a wonderful pill that helps you against a lot of diseases mentioned in the article, but if this pill CAN really help you against the problem of drinking and the other diseases, I will be supporting a 100% the selling of this drug. The only problem that I can imagine with the selling of this pill, is that it would be expensive to get one of those, and if you need to take a certain amount of pills in a certain period of time, people who do not have to money to afford it wouldn't be able to overcome their addiction so easily.

    1. Francisca, in terms of money I don't think it would be a very expensive treatment; as I said, it has been used for many different porpuses and although it may not be as sheap as aspirins, I don't think it will cost a fortune.

  3. Nature is giving us a hand again. It's impressive how natural things are so useful for many thing related to health. It's good to see that addicts will have a helping hand if they decide to stop drinking, because i think that there may be people who have the intention of quitting those kind of habits, but their will is not strong enough to endure all the things that follow after quitting, like anxiety and stuff. I think that scientist are also working on the smoking field. I read that they came up with a pill for smoking, but it didn't cope with the expectation because people kept on smoking ajajaj. But anyway, i hope scientist don't give up on working in this field, and they can actually come up with something useful for people who need it.

  5. Personally, I believe that changing one ingestion for another could be really tricky;indeed, alcoholism is usually realted with the need of a substance to avoid a personal issue, and with this pill yuou're doing the same: replacing with a substance a personal problem.
