CT Scan |
CT scan is popular because it allows doctors to detect everything in the human body. But this scan is also dangerous: the clearer the image obtained, the more radiation emitted.

In the article "Computed Tomography — An Increasing Source of Radiation Exposure" written by David J. Brenner and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Brenner claims CT could cause skin cancer due to the higher level of radiation emitted. This radiation is higher than the one emitted by the X-rays since more images are needed to produce a 3-D picture.
Dr. Brenner argues that people are being irradiated unnecessarily and he posits that the "most effective way to reduce the population dose from CT is simply to decrease the number of CT studies that are prescribed".
The following video explains this topic in detail:
Long-term studies of CT scans and cancer are still under way, but doctors already know that cancer is inevitable due to the high doses of radiation.
If doctors know about the dangers of CT scans, why are they still recommend them? Why they don't give you the option of a lower dose of radiation? If a doctor recommends a CT scan for you, would you do it? Would you take the risk?
I would. It's just that not because you take one or a couple of CTs you'll get cancer. It's like what happens with X Rays: there you are exposed to radiation as well, but you still do it.
ReplyDeleteCT scan is the best way to find out what's wrong in your body, and let's not forget that CT scans are nos prescribed right away, because depending on your problem, there can be other ways of finding out what is going on with you. Also, CT scans are really expensive.
